THE PERILS OF MOTHERHOOD

Trader on Pedestrian Bridge at Anthony Village. Lagos

She’s supposed to be a mother, yes a mother.

The toddler wandered around, following her closely as she hawked her goods.

Concerned, I called the mother to attention, “madam, it’s risky to leave your boy this way, hold his hand at least this area is way too busy”

She was really angered by my approach, she said “abeg, leave my pikin for me oo”

All of this happened as I tried to guide the young champ from unforeseen menace.

The enmity the mother had for me was raw, I probably saved her son’s life more than once, that didn’t count to her, other women advised me to leave the premises but as I boarded a bus I looked back.

The toddler was left unwatched in the streets of Lagos!
