For most of us, the struggle encountered while travelling is finding the suitable place, not just to rest our head but a tourist station where we can explore a city from without hitches.
Aloha means “hello, love or goodbye” in Hawaiian language. The Hotel and Resort is situated in a serene and secluded environment, free from any major activities in Osogbo. It is nestled in the forests of a simple town, called Ada. I was there for an event and I would definitely love to visit over again.
#1. LOCATION AND PROXIMITY
Aloha is located at 36, Aloha Avenue (beside lake 264), Off Ring Road, Osogbo, Osun state, Nigeria. There’s an active website for bookings and they can be emailed for enquiries.
The three-star hotel is central enough to visit places of interest in the town. It is 3.3 km from Osogbo and near few historic sites such as Osun-Osogbo Grove (3.7 km from the hotel).
This beautiful establishment is more than a place to lodge. It is a vantage point for sightseeing and exploring tourism around the countryside. That’s why it’s highly patronised by travellers and newbies seeking adventure.
Background Story – Lake 264
Lake 264 adds a beachfront touch to the hidden gem. It’s great for relaxation, sunbath and kayaking (Yes! That happens here)
Before acquisition, the lake was utilised for cooling hot coal at the time of transit. It was originally owned by Nigerian Railway Corporation and leased to the hotel for a period of 50 years (a very long time).
Fun Fact: You can learn how to fish and maybe even catch one in the lake.
Nowadays, the stream generates healthy revenue for the hotel from kayaking enthusiasts.
#2. ACCOMODATION
Aloha is a splendid mid-range luxury hotel. The rooms are moderately priced and suite privileges include complementary breakfast for one person in the room, night turn down service and valet service. Check-in time is 14:00 and Check-out time is 12:00 (noon).
Room charges are as follows. Premium Room – N12,500, Luxury Room – N15,500, Aloha Suite – N20,500, Hula and Huwaii Suite – N25,500 and Director Suite – N30,500. There’s no room charge for children under 12 years occupying same room with parents.
The hotel has an approximate total of 20 rooms, each equipped with air conditioning, fast internet and WiFi service. The cosy rooms are designed to give you a homely feeling, guests can reserve king or queen size bed suites and enjoy amenities like night snacks.
The one-of-a-kind room service are round the clock and rooms overseeing Lake 264 can be reserved and enjoyed with a media library of handpicked movies for your viewing pleasure.
#3. DINING
The staff are well trained and multilingual, many of them speak English, Yoruba and other languages.
Guests have the choice to pick between Nigerian, American, European and Polynesian cuisines. The style of cooking is elegant and flavours will make your taste buds jiggle.
Satisfy yourself with delightful and spicy delicacies with traditional or refined drinks at the hotel.
#4. FACILITIES
Aloha has been open for just a little over 7 months and it currently boasts of diverse amenities. Perhaps, this is one of the reasons it attracts visitors.
The hotel offers 24-hour front desk services, express check-in and check-out, daily maid services, dry cleaning and ironing services, spa and fitness centre (gymnasium), restaurant, events hall booking (Madam Pele), meeting/banquet facilities and wheelchair accessibility (for people with motor disabilities).
Other services include indoor bar, DJ and entertainment staff, planned excursions and tourist services (additional charge).
#5. OUTDOOR
There’s a lot of accessible parking areas available within and outside the premises, security is a 100% guaranteed and the outdoor is great with paved walkways, greenery and sit-outs. The swimming pool is a significant public space for outdoor activities.
Aloha offers the beginning of an unforgettable experience rendered by a professionally trained team. It is a resort promoting tourism in Osun state by accommodating tourists as they explore beautiful attractions.
Birdwatching, swimming, fishing, golfing at the mini course and relaxing by the pool on a lounge chaise are some pleasurable to-do activities.
The resort is friendly to wildlife, it is a conducive environment for them to thrive and largely appeals to ecotourists. You may be surprised to see ducks and beautiful peacocks wandering around. The wildlife park can be visited for a token of N200, watch an ostrich and other awesome creatures.
Kayaking in Paradise
The price-performance ratio of Aloha Hotel and Resort is very commendable and the view over the lake is absolutely unique.
The Lake is a combination of beauty, nature, and relaxation. It puts the hotel on the map as one of the few establishments with water sport activities. Kayak rentals start at N300 and the experience is awesome!
After paying a total of N500, I got access to the lake and wildlife park. At the time, there was ongoing renovations and construction of a special boat to convey 15 to 20 people at a time.
I saw them welding hollow steel frames to form a framework and it looked interesting. There were no boat rides in the blue-green lake on that day.
Some rundown “water speed bikes” in the area needed urgent repairs. I learnt that when operational it cost N2,000 for a ride and made close to N200,000 per day. That’s amazing.
THE SUM UP
Aloha Hotel is a serene and beautiful place to experience the abundance of art, history and culture of Osogbo indigenes and enjoy extreme stream adventures on the waters of Lake 264.
The charming hotel and resort is more than just a place to lodge after a day of sightseeing and exploring the countryside. It is described as the best-kept secret in Osogbo pertaining lodging and African tourism.
