In September of 2019, I was at a conference put together by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The event was themed, “Mitigating Effects of Cybercrime: Roles of Telecom Consumers” and it was scheduled to take place at the ever fantastic Aurora Conference Centre in Osogbo.

During my stay in Osun’s capital city, I saw the most brilliant event centres across town and somehow, Aurora Conference Centre always stood out from the rest!

In attendance, the NCC had their officials, telecoms companies, security operatives, traditional rulers, political figures, youth corpers, iyalojas (market women) and several stakeholders from all walks of life.

Attending this conference gave me the chance to experience Aurora from an insider’s perspective.

So, I’ll be looking at why I think Aurora Conference Centre may be the best event centre in the whole of Osogbo!

Aurora is located in the capital city of Osun state which is a focal point for major events and happenings in the state.

Aurora Conference Centre seats on Plot 6, Block IXA, GRA, After NNPC Mega Station, Adjacent Dangote Cement Depot, Ring Road, Osogbo, Osun.

This event centre is a hundred percent easy to locate even for new guests/visitors.

It stands out from other places in the neighbourhood and is adjacent a nicely ‘tarred’ road which makes journeying hitchfree for commuters and event goers.

As a student of architecture in my university days, I was totally dumbstruck by the allure and grandiose of Aurora Conference Centre.

From the building’s colours, roof, landscape, site design and lighting. Aurora has become the dawn of event centres in Osogbo!

This public space is accentuated with ample parking, impeccable hall acoustics, generous fenestration and most importantly, disable friendly services.

Aurora Conference Centre showcases a good mix of vegetation ranging from flowers, trees and crawling grasses.

This adds a unique sense of calm to the events hub.

With personalities like 2 Baba, the Chief Justice of Osun and Fmr. Governor of the state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola in their clientele, Aurora Conference Centre sure doesn’t take chances with stringent security measures.

This event centre is gated and security officials work around the clock.

Also, CCTV cameras strategically positioned provide realtime information on activities in the area.

The noticeable setback from the road minimises vehicular disturbance and creates extra parking spaces for visitors.

Inside, ambiance is achieved by a combination of interior decor and flexibility.

And trust me, if you want to entertain your friends without having any anxiety, Aurora Conference Centre is definitely one of those unruffled places.

Not that this really matters but it may be unfair if I don’t mention any pointers from the conference especially for those who may be interested.

  1. Cybercrime is a menace to any society. In Nigeria, perpetrators are commonly called “Yahoo Boys.” They prey on vulnerable persons through hacking, online scam, internet fraud and hate speech.
  2. Ransomware is a type of malware from cryptovirology that threatens to publish the victim’s data or perpetually block access to it unless a ransom is paid.
  3. At certain times, change passwords on your social media and online banking accounts. Never use the same for everything.
  4. Beware! Fake credit alerts are on the rise. Confirm delicate transactions with your Banker.
  5. Contrary to popular believe Telecommunication Masts are not harmful to human health.

The conference was an innovative one by the National Communications Commission, there was an interactive session where everyone asked questions and after an impactful day, we finished few minutes to three p.m. and each attendee had refreshments (item number seven 😋).
