"Do it because you truly enjoy travelling" – Lola Daniyan ✍ . . Back in 2019, I was so excited to have Lola Daniyan – one of my personal favourites, feature on the blog because of her immense work, experience and OG status in the travel niche. 😎 . . Although this interview is probably one of the best I will ever have on my blog, I’ve got an archive I think you’re going to be interested in… like the time I interviewed Dr. Rochelle Knight – a Jamaican travel blogger who juggles medical profession with blogging or Chinasa Afigbo – a Nigerian who shared how she balances her nine to five with travel blogging.

First off, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Lola Daniyan for being available for this interview… I bet you’ll learn a few pointers from her well thought out response.

Let’s Rock and Roll!

Q1. What inspired you to become a blogger?

I wanted to show people what Nigeria had to offer in terms of tourism. By writing about it and sharing pictures on the various places I visited, people’s interest were piqued and I believe we helped promote Nigerian tourism to what it is now.

Q2. For how long have you been blogging?

5 years.

Q3. Why be a travel blogger?

To share travel stories from my perspective and also inspire people to travel more and see the world.

Q4. How would you describe your style of travel and your travel blogging content?

I don’t have a particular travel style. Every trip is different. Sometimes I’m an adventurous traveler, sometimes leisure, sometimes educative. It really all depends on why I’m travelling and the destination. My travel blogging content hovers around a few things – tips/hacks, information/education and all round fun.

Q5. Briefly describe what you use your different social channels for and what is your dominant channel for you personally.

My blog is primarily where I write all the information on the various tourist attractions I visit. Instagram, Facebook & twitter are to promote the blog posts. Twitter is for also engaging with our followers and Instagram helps us to show pretty pictures of places that we’ve visited. It’s like and online photo album without all the extra words on a blog.

Q6. How do you balance your day job and blogging?

Prioritize. When I’m at my 9-5 I do what I’m employed to. I blog when I’m not at work, during the weekends and also when I’m on leave or have days off.

Q7. Where do you get your travel inspiration from, who gives you the advice?

I get my inspiration from everywhere. From the solo backpacking traveler to friends going on holiday together. Luckily the world has become such a global village that when you need advice on something even if you’ve never met the person you need help from, they’re just a message away.

Q8. Name the location that was 1. Most fun, 2. Most Inspiring, 3. Most Challenging.

Most fun – Can’t pick one. I have fun everyone I go. Most inspiring – Obudu Cattle Ranch. Most Challenging – Owu falls in Kwara state

Q9. What is still on your bucket list?

Visit all the 7 wonders of the world, explore Northern Nigeria, swim with dolphins, visit the Cayman Islands, Thailand, honestly there’s still a lot on it and things give getting added.

Q10. Have you had any celebrity encounters while travelling?

No.

Q11. What’s the biggest thing you’ve learnt about yourself since you started travel blogging?

I’ve learnt that I still have to learn about the various cultures and way of life of people. Also that I can do what I set my mind to.

Q12. What was your very first travel blogger destination that you produced some content for?

Lekki Conservation Center, Lagos.

Q13. If they were to ever make a movie about one or all of your adventures, what would the title and plot summary be?

Live your best life.

Q14. What is your most embarrassing moment while travelling?

Haven’t really had any.

Q15. What is a little naughty secret you have not openly told before!?

I don’t have any naughty secrets.

Q16. Do you have any funny stories to tell?

Well I thought it was hilarious when I went to a certain Middle Eastern country and everyone wanted to take pictures with my friends and I because they don’t see black people often.

Q17. What key lessons do you have for everyone based on what you have learnt from the gift of travel blogging?

Don’t do it because everyone else is doing. Do it because you truly enjoy travelling. Also be open minded. Travel opens your mind in ways you didn’t even know was possible.

  1. I want both! All the best with your YouTube channel. Great interview but I hope Lola changes her mind about swimming with dolphins in the near future. Jamaica has some of the world’s most popular dolphinariums and there’s a movement now to get them closed because of the environmental impacts plus animal mistreatment they promote. These lovely intelligent animals weren’t meant to be held captive in shallow pens for their entire lifetimes.
