AN EPIC DAY! I GOT THE REAL NEAT BLOG AWARD

Arc. Mohsin Sheikh

First and foremost, I’ll like to say a big thank you to Architect Moshin Sheikh who nominated me for this impeccable award. He currently blogs at armohsinsheikh.com and his content is real fun to read, they’re mostly architecture related with a speck of history.

This is my second award nomination on the blogosphere and I’m pretty charged up about it.

Before I begin with stating the rules, I want to extend my profound appreciation to everyone who cares to read my blog, engage with me by commenting, sharing with friends or reaching out to me across my social networks.

Your kind gesture is all the encouragement I need. Thank you.

So, the rules are…

  1. Display the blog award logo on your blog.
  2. Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you.
  3. Do not forget to link to their blogging website.
  4. Answer all the questions they have given you.
  5. Nominate 7 to 10 bloggers of your choice.
  6. Ask them 7 questions.

Let’s get to my answers, shall we…

1. Name any 3-5 lines or dialogues from books/movies that you found fascinating.

So this is from The Godfather and it’s when Don Corleone says, “It’s nothing personal, just business.”

Funny thing is I read the book by Mario Puzo and watched the movie so that specific line sends chills down my spine anytime I hear it, it was perfectly executed by the actor and because of this, Don Corleone’s words have continued to show up in mafiosi and gangster related movies, most recently in The Gentlemen.

2. What type of movies do you watch? Any specific director or actor preferences?

Well, I’m not a very big movie person but when I do watch movies, my interest cut across drama, crime and investigation, documentary, real life stories and action.

I do not have a favourite director but if there’s anything close to that up in my head, I would say The Russo Brothers because they’re fantastic with bringing superhero characters to life.

3. What is your take about politics?

Politics is too controversial and personally, I’ll never consider getting into it. The level of public trust and accountability is mind itching plus, corruption is sometimes interwoven with politics.

I won’t want to soil my hands with political matters. And yes, I know they’re sincere and honest leaders and politicians out there who genuinely care about their populace but nah, it’s not for me.

4. Name three habits you want to share with us.

I like listening to the radio and my favourite channel right now is a home based one called Cool FM, it’s up on 96.9 Lagos and I think the channel is also available online. The talk shows are absolutely my favourite.

I’m forming a habit of writing at least one paragraph daily and I know it’s little, but it helps me stay creative.

Lastly, I discovered Hootsuite during the lockdown in my country and ever since, I’ve been scheduling many of my posts on my Twitter and Facebook, this has given me more free time and more often than not, I’m up at night automating my Tweets and Facebook feed.

5. Which will be your go-to place for dinner, once this lockdown ends?

Probably KFC, I’ll just have roasted chicken and chips, nothing on the extreme. Quick thought, the lockdown has been relaxed in my city for weeks now but I’ll be postponing dinner until when it’s safer.

6. Describe your favorite book.

My favourite book right now is a Christian book, it’s called The Lifestyle of Faith written by David Abioye.

In the book, the author proclaims the importance of faith in the Christian journey and he sites many powerful examples from the Scriptures.

7. When you joined the WordPress community, what were your thoughts? Did you have any expectations? Was there any specific reason why you chose blogging? (Apart from being passionate about writing)

Ah, this takes me back to a year and some months ago. Anyway, when I joined the WordPress community, I had humongous plans and expectations.

First, I thought I was going to get monetized in a couple of months with Google Ads and all others but that hasn’t worked. Ha, not even now but maybe later.

Also, I joined because I thought it was going to get all serious and I would be cashing out from brand partnerships and endorsements. It wasn’t until much later that I started to see this community as a family and not competition.

Since then, I’ve had a big number of collaborations with fellow travel bloggers and my friends and network have grown tremendously well too.

Concerning why I joined, I’m happy I did for the somewhat right reasons.

My friend from way back encouraged me to pick up blogging after he noticed that I was sharing insights on different destinations on my WhatsApp.

Beginning from 2018, and I wouldn’t say I’m very passionate about writing. I continued to blog about my favourite destinations, travel experiences and different cultures.

It’s been a whole lotta fun with WordPress and I’m not leaving here anytime soon.

And the nominees are…

1. VINCENT EHINDERO
2. POOJA G.
3. ANDY
4. TRENZZNET
5. LEIGHTON THOMAS
6. JIRAH MERIZZ
7. JOSEYPHINA

My questions for you are…

1. What inspired you to become a blogger?
2. How do you balance your day job and blogging?
3. How far away from your birthplace do you live now?
4. What is your favourite quote?
5. What is a strange occurrence you’ve experienced but have never (or rarely) shared with anyone?
6. What is one thing you’d rather pay someone to do than do yourself? Why?
7. When you joined the WordPress community, what were your thoughts? Did you have any expectations? Was there any specific reason why you chose blogging? (Apart from being passionate about writing)

Hiya nominees, I’ll be looking forward to your thoughtful response in subsequent blogposts.

What was my most interesting answer? Lemme know in the comments below.

Thank you for reading.

  1. Hey Emmanuel, what can I say, a huge congratulations to you! Thoroughly deserved as you are one of the most committed bloggers out there. Not to mention supportive of your fellow writers! Thanks a lot for the nomination, this is my first such “nod” and indeed the first time I’d even heard of the award. Cheers! Leighton & Sladja.

  2. Congratulations on the well deserved award and thanks for nominating me! I feel the same way about politics as well- it’s very dirty and I wouldn’t want to be a part of it.
