As a kid I visited Lagos Country Club for a friend’s wedding reception, that particular occasion rekindles lovely memories. In recent times, I have been there for diverse reasons be it architecture design case study, sightseeing etc. Through recollection, I have no doubt that both experiences have been unique, the club founded 3rd August 1949 has reasonably evolved.
The National Stadium (formerly called Surulere Stadium) boasts of a main bowl capable of accommodating over 50,000 spectators and a record attendance of 85,000 during the African Cup of Nations (final match) in 1980 between Nigeria and Algeria. Also, the complex houses an Olympic size swimming arena and a multipurpose arena used for wrestling, boxing, volleyball, table tennis and most especially basketball tournaments.
